Excelerate, Topline Energy team up for Philippines' LNG hub

U.S.-based LNG specialist Excelerate Energy and Philippines company Topline Energy are collaborating on the Luzon LNG Terminal project that will bring an LNG hub to Cebu.

The local news reported that MACTAN Economic Zone – Facilities, Maintenance and Environmental Association (MEZ-Famea) held its second membership meeting and technical sharing at the end of July. where they discussed the development of the LNG hub in Cebu.

As of the Department of Energy’s latest record, there are at least five parties developing their own LNG terminals in the country including FGEN LNG, Linseed Field Power, Shell Energy Philippines, Excelerate Energy with Topline Energy and Power Development, as well as Energy World Gas Operations Philippines.

Luzon LNG Terminal (LLTI) is a partnership between Topline Energy and Excelarate Energy. The collaboration is to bring cleaner and more sustainable energy to Cebu soon. It also marks the first step of LNG distribution in this province of the Philippines.

In its collaboration, Excelerate Energy and Topline intend to establish Cebu as an LNG logistics center in Visayan Islands, supplying LNG while using ISO tanks to the surrounding islands. The terminal’s overall goal is to build and develop LNG terminals and power plant infrastructures over the next few years. Its primary objective is to be a reputable clean energy provider in the country.

The project received the government’s approval in April this year.
