Technip Energies, leader of a consortium with Clough, will perform the front end engineering design (FEED) for TotalEnergies’ Papua LNG project’s upstream production facilities in Papua New Guinea.
Papua LNG project is a 5.4 million tonne a year liquefied natural gas (LNG) project that will target the production of the two main discoveries of Block PRL-15 gas fields. The gas produced by these fields will be transported by a 320 kilometres onshore/offshore pipeline to Caution Bay site in order to be liquefied. This will be integrated into the existing PNG LNG facilities in Caution Bay.
The upstream production facilities cover the development of the Elk and Antelope onshore gas fields including the well pads and the central processing facility.
It also incorporates a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) scheme to remove the fields’ native CO2 and reinject it into the reservoirs.
Technip Energies and Clough said they offer a combination to identify and tackle the specific challenges of this project, lay solid foundations for its execution and foster a sustainable ecosystem around it.

The project is targeting a final investment decision (FID) around the end of 2023, and a start-up at the end of 2027.
The project is a partnership between Total E&P PNG Limited (TEP PNG) which is the project operator with a 40.13 per cent stake. There are also joint venture partners ExxonMobil with37.03 per cent and Oil Search Limited with 22.84 per cent.
