Italian contractor Rosetti Marino has been awarded a contract by TotalEnergies for the construction of the Fenix project platform, which will be installed 60 km off the coast of Terra del Fuego in southern Argentina.
This comes days after TotalEnergies announced a final investment decision for the Fenix gas development, the world’s southernmost gas project. TotalEnergies and its partners, Wintershall Dea and Pan American Sur, will invest about $706 million to develop Fenix through three horizontal wells, drilled from a new unmanned platform.
The gas will be transported through a 35km subsea pipeline to the TotalEnergies-operated Véga Pleyade platform and treated onshore at the Rio Cullen and Cañadon Alfa plants, also operated by the French company.
Rosetti Marino’s contract was announced by the company via its social media channels on Tuesday. It involves Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) of a platform consisting of a topside, jacket, and foundation piles for the production of 10 million m3/day of gas. It will have a total weight of more than 4,000 tons and will be installed at a water depth of about 70 meters.
The Italian firm said that design activities are underway at its Milan offices and construction will start shortly at the Piomboni Yard located in Ravenna harbour. The yard is mainly dedicated to the fabrication of offshore platforms and complex large steel structures. Delivery is scheduled for November 2023 and the start-up of production will take place in early 2025.
As reported earlier this week, the steel pipes for the project will be delivered by Corinth Pipeworks . The pipes will be manufactured at the company’s facilities in Thisvi, Greece, with installation work set to begin in 2023.
