Qatargas, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production unit of state-owned QatarEnergy, has delivered a commissioning LNG cargo to China’s newest LNG terminal, the Jiangsu-Binhai LNG terminal, owned and operated by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) .
The cargo was loaded in Ras Laffan on 10 September on the 216,000 cubic metre Q-Flex LNG vessel Al Ghashamiya and arrived at the Jiangsu-Binhai LNG terminal on 26 September 2022, according to Qatar’s local media reports.
Located on the east coast of China, the terminal currently features four LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 220,000 cubic metres.
Further expansion is underway which includes adding six new large LNG tanks with a storage capacity of 270,000 cubic metres each.
The expansion project began at the beginning of the year and, once completed, the terminal will have ten tanks and the capacity to annually receive six million tonnes of LNG .
The Binhai LNG terminal will start operations by the end of 2023 as the third operating LNG import facility in Jiangsu province.
In addition to LNG operations, the project will also feature facilities for hydrogen production with gas.
