Norwegian energy company Equinor has secured a permit from the country’s authorities to drill two wildcat wells in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) last week granted Equinor a drilling permit for wellbores 34/6-6 S and 34/6-6 A, expected to be drilled in November and December 2022, respectively. The prospect is named Angulata Brent.

Both wells are located in production licence 554 , between Garantiana and Visund fields. The licence is operated by Equinor with a 40 per cent interest and its partners are Vår Energi and Aker BP with a 30 per cent interest each.

The wells will be drilled using the Transocean Spitsbergen semi-submersible rig. The duration of drilling operations is estimated at 76 days.

The rig is under a long-term contract with Equinor and the Norwegian company has recently exercised a one-well option at $316,000 per day.
