Newcastle University is looking for a research engineer who would assist in the design, build, and deployment of a small-scale wave energy device.
The role of a research assistant/associate in electrical machines and wave energy will be focused on the mechanical development and deployment of an electrical generator to be mounted on a buoy moored in the North Sea .
Dependent on experience, there could be involvement in the design, simulation, build and data monitoring phases of the work.
The overall aim of the work is to prove that novel slow speed electrical machines can operate in the marine environment, according to the university.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 18 months, while the art-time or flexible hours will be considered on merit, the university noted.
To qualify for the role, the candidate should possess upper second-class degree (or higher) in electrical or mechanical engineering, physics or other directly related field.
The desirable qualification, according to Newcastle University, is a PhD degree, or equivalent experience, within the research area of electrical machines, electromagnetics, or other aspect of wave energy power take-off (PTO).
