India’s energy company Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has launched a tender looking for consultancy services for the development of floating solar projects in Kochi.
BPCL is engaged in manufacturing a range of petroleum products through oil depots, installations, LPG bottling plants, etc., and is planning to set up solar power plants across India as part of its diversification into renewable energy.
The selected party will be in charge of preparing tender documents and specifications for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, evaluating tender documents and technical bids, supporting approval of design and drawings, as well as supervising project execution and commissioning activities for two projects.
The projects will be set up in Kochi Refinery and Shore Tank Farm areas.
The estimated capacity of the first project is 4.6 MW DC/3.2 MW AC and the generated power will be used for internal consumption without export to the external grid.
The second project will have a capacity of 5.2 MW DC/3.7 MW AC. Electricity generated will be consumed internally at Shore Tank Farm using the banking facility of Kerala State Electricity Board with export to external grid involved.
BPCL has already conducted a study at the locations to assess the feasibility of installing floating solar power plants. However, the consultant shall conduct a site visit and carry out a preliminary assessment to ascertain the capacity and parameters of the floating solar plant before preparation of design specifications, estimate and bidding documents.
The capacity of the plant will then be finally decided based on the assessment.
