French-headquartered energy giant TotalEnergies has handed out a long-term deal to Denmark’s Semco Maritime for the provision of manpower and construction service to its offshore installations in the Danish part of the North Sea.
While announcing this five-year contract, Semco Maritime explains that the deal covers November 2022 – October 2027 and “strengthens the long-standing strategic collaboration” with TotalEnergies, building on years of “constructive cooperation” including the ongoing re-development of the Tyra field . In addition, it establishes a framework for extended collaboration in existing projects and the provision of manpower in ad hoc projects.
Anders Benfeldt , Senior Vice President Oil & Gas, Semco Maritime, remarked: “We are very pleased to strengthen our already close ties with TotalEnergies with the signing of this important contract, which we consider a vote of confidence after years of great cooperation. Ensuring efficient operations and a stable energy supply from the North Sea is of critical importance to TotalEnergies and the Danish people, and we are committed to provide an excellent team with a stellar track record to get this job done.”
Furthermore, Semco Maritime expects to engage “a significant number” of skilled onshore and offshore workers under this contract, which will cover more than 1 million work hours. This extended collaboration between these two companies is anticipated to unlock synergies across projects, “ensuring smoother operations and swift assistance based on closer working relationships and deeper understanding of the specific conditions and needs” on each offshore installation.
Moreover, these closer ties between TotalEnegies and Semco Maritime will contribute to ensuring efficient operations, “ultimately securing the Danish energy supply from the North Sea with the Tyra project as a particularly important priority.” The first gas from Tyra II is slated for the winter season of 2023/24. Once on stream, it is expected to deliver 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which amounts to 80 per cent of the forecasted Danish gas production.
Semco Maritime confirms that the five-year contract with TotalEnergies, which started on 1 November 2022, “ensures a long-term planning horizon,” enabling the Danish firm to attract, retain and further develop highly skilled onshore and offshore workers for the contract and future assignments.
When it comes to Semco Maritime’s recent activities, it is worth noting that the company secured another five-year deal in August 2022 with Aker BP.
