Canada’s oil and gas producer Trillion Energy is anticipating the restart of production from the second well in its 2022 – 2023 drilling programme this week. In addition, gas sales are underway from the first well in this multi-well campaign, which is being carried out on a natural gas field in the Black Sea off Türkiye.
Following delays , Trillion spudded the first well , South Akçakoca-2 , in the drilling campaign on the SASB natural gas field in September 2022, once the Uranus rig – which was hired in May 2022 – arrived at the Akçakoca platform.
The Canadian player announced the preliminary gas indications from the well in October 2022, explaining that numerous potential gas zones were identified on logging.
After disclosing the flow test results for the well earlier this month, the company started the recompletion work on the second well – Akçakoca-3 – in its 17-well development programme on this shallow-water conventional gas field.
In an update on Monday, Trillion Energy announced that the borehole for the Akçakoca-3 well was cleared of old wireline through a fishing operation. The well has been cleaned and readied for the re-perforation operation.
During this operation, the company’s crew recovered over 600 kg of lost cable and cleared the wellbore, while all the lost cable above the packer was recovered, and the old packer was pushed down below the deepest perforation interval.
As a result, the Akçakoca-3 borehole is now ready for re-perforation, including the remaining gas-bearing zones totalling approximately 34 meters of pay. Trillion underscores that perforations are anticipated to be completed later this week with production expected to start shortly afterwards.
Meanwhile, natural gas sales have started from the South Akçakoca-2 well, which was put on initial production rates averaging approximately 3.0 MMcf/d. The Canadian player is monitoring the production characteristics of the well to gradually increase production rates.
Arthur Halleran , Trillion Energy’s CEO, remarked: “We are pleased to have achieved gas sales from South Akçakoca-2 ahead of schedule in cooperation with our partner, TPAO. During testing, no gas was vented to the atmosphere as the gas flow was contained within the pipeline production system.
“This Akçakoca-3 fishing operation could not be done earlier, as the Uranus rig was required due to the mechanical challenges faced. We look forward to perforating and putting the well back on production this week.”
Upon completion of the activities at the Akçakoca platform, the Uranus rig will continue the work programme by moving to the next platform at the SASB field .
