China’s oil and gas player CNOOC Limited has kicked off production from a gas development project in the Bohai Sea. This is the fourth project off China that the firm has brought on stream since September.
CNOOC announced the start of production at the Jinzhou 31-1 gas field development project on Thursday. The main production facilities include one subsea production system, one submarine transportation pipeline, and one umbilical cable.
Located in Liaodong Bay of the Bohai Sea, in an average water depth of about 30 meters, the Jinzhou 31-1 gas field will use the existing processing facilities of the Jinzhou 25-1 south platform and apply the first shallow-water Christmas tree independently developed in China.
CNOOC highlights that this project is expected to reach its peak production of approximately 14.8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day in 2023. The Chinese giant holds a 100 per cent interest in the Jinzhou 31-1 gas field development project and acts as the operator.
This project comes on stream two months after the company started production from two gas projects in the South China Sea and one oilfield development in the Bohai Sea. These developments are in line with the company’s 2022 Business Strategy and Development Plan, regarding plans to increase oil and gas production in the next three years.
Regarding CNOOC’s other recent activities, it is worth noting that the Chinese player, together with ConocoPhillips China (COPC), announced the beginning of the Penglai Offshore Windfarm Pilot Project earlier this month.
This project will harness wind energy to power the Penglai oilfield located offshore China.
