Although the Netherlands does not have plans to deploy floating offshore wind turbines in its waters, at least not yet, professionals from the industry are coming together to talk floating wind on 29 November at RAI Amsterdam, where Navingo is organising its annual Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference.
With record floating wind capacity already awarded or soon to be procured across Europe, and new targets being set worldwide, the conference session ‘Focus on Floating Wind’ will look at both the industry’s trajectory toward 2030 and 2050, and the supply chain which is crucial for realising the projects.
Joining from the two countries where floating wind is taking off big style, Norway and the UK, Arvid Nesse, Manager at Norwegian Offshore Wind and Managing Director at Marine Energy Test Centre (METCentre), and Sharanya Kumaramurthy, Senior Energy Analyst at the UK’s Energy Industries Council (EIC), will have plenty to share on floating wind, from market insights to supply chain capabilities.
Norway’s METCentre is home to the TetraSpar Demonstrator floating wind turbine and was recently licensed to test four new offshore wind turbines on the Norwegian west coast.
“METCentre is a world leading site for floating wind. Norway is a pioneer in floating technology, and Norwegian Offshore Wind represents the Norwegian supply chain and developer. I look forward to sharing our thoughts on the exciting development ahead of us”, Arvid Nesse said.
The Energy Industries Council (EIC) is one of the UK’s largest energy supply chain trade association, a not-for-profit with over 800 member companies. At the EIC, Sharanya Kumaramurthy, who will join our ‘Focus on Floating Wind’ session, is responsible for market intelligence on Offshore and Onshore Wind, and supports companies by providing extensive market insights.
From the supply chain, Barend Jenje, Commercial Director Floating Wind at GustoMSC, and Joop Roodenburg, President of Huisman, will bring their expertise in floating wind technology, heavy lifting and installation solutions, and much more.
GustoMSC, a NOV company, is developing a semi-submersible Tri-Floater wind turbine foundation, among other things, which completed model tests in France at the beginning of this year. The company is also behind multiple established and novel vessel designs and solutions for the installation of both bottom-fixed and floating wind components.
Huisman will provide more details on its recently introduced Windfarm Installation Vessel (WIV), a semi-submersible vessel with a 3D-motion compensated wind turbine installation system, for which Huisman says offers a cost-effective installation method for both floating and fixed-bottom wind farms.
The ’Focus on Floating Wind’ conference session will take place from 11:30 until 12:30 at RAI Amsterdam.
