SINTEF, Sustainable Energy join forces to improve research capacity

SINTEF and Sustainable Energy have signed a letter of intent that will make relevant research and testing infrastructure available to Norwegian industry in areas that are crucial for the green transition.

According to SINTEF , the collaboration will cover particularly relevant areas such as offshore wind power and energy production , future energy carriers from the maritime sector , new energy systems , CO 2 capture and storage , hydrogen technology , and floating solar power .

The Norway-based research organization pointed out that the partnership aims to reach a high level of complementarity through better understanding of each other’s organizations, which will enable them to improve framework conditions for guaranteeing new investments in testing facilities and research infrastructure as well as their impact.

Jack Arild Ødegård , research director in SINTEF, said: “ Our research and testing infrastructure complements Sustainable Energy in both range and scale, and will support the development of new technologies and solutions from conception to commercial implementation. By making this available, we will contribute to the faster development of new, green solutions. In addition, becoming more knowledgeable about data and research challenges from technology testing will ensure that our research is up to date and relevant for future industry. ”

Another stated objective of the partnership is to contribute to more Norwegian and EU projects in order to boost Norwegian companies’ competitiveness.

Sustainable Energy is a Norwegian catapult center, headquartered in Stord and located in close proximity to a significant proportion of Western Norway´s maritime economy, that provides testing facilities and enables fast-track product development and commercialization.

SINTEF , the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia, is a broad-based, multi-disciplinary research company with international expertise in technology, natural science, medicine and social science.

Every year, SINTEF supports the development of 2,000 or so Norwegian and overseas companies via research and development activity. Last year, Sintef Ocean had performed tests on a scaled floating solar model on behalf of Moss Maritime and Equinor.
