AB Klaipedos Nafta, operator of Klaipeda LNG Terminal, and AB Amber Grid, gas transmission system operator, have begun a joint process of Open Season procedure at the terminal and Lithuanian gas transmission system.
The operators said they seek to evaluate possibilities to expand the current Klaipeda LNG terminal regasification capacity as well capacity of the gas transmission system in relevant entry and exit points and create the possibility to book additional LNG import capacity in the future.
They noted that implementation of that project should create additional LNG import capacity of up to 2.5 bcm/year, preliminary starting from the 2nd half of 2026.
As the first step of the project, the operators will assess the market participants’ demand for the expanded capacity.
Therefore, the operators announced the process of the Open Season procedure that starts with a non-binding phase and will continue with the binding phase if sufficient demand for additional capacity would be identified during the non-binding phase.
The operators said that the non-binding phase which started on 19 December 2022 will last until 1 February 2023, and the announcement of the decision to conduct the binding phase will follow afterwards and be published by 1 March 2023.
As of the beginning of April, Lithuania has been completely independent of Russian gas, satisfying all its gas demands through the Klaipeda LNG terminal, which has been fully booked for the gas year that lasted until 30 September 2022.
