Swedish green electrofuel developer Liquid Wind has selected Swedish-Finnish AFRY to provide basic engineering for the balance of FlagshipTWO plant, its second electrofuel facility in Sundsvall, Sweden.
Liquid Wind, together with compatriot energy services provider Sundsvall Energi, aims to develop a 100,000-ton electrofuel facility .
Now, AFRY has been selected as the engineering consultant in FlagshipTWO to perform basic engineering for the balance of plant and integration with Sundsvall Energi.
AFRY’s assignment also covers project management for the entire basic engineering of the project in addition to preparing technical documentation for the environmental permit.
According to Liquid Wind, AFRY’s assignment began in Q4 2022 and will be completed by the summer of 2023. Production at the facility in Sundsvall is planned to start at the end of 2025.

Liquid Wind’s first electrofuel project FlagshipONE in Örnsköldsvik was acquired by Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted in December 2022. It is Europe’s first commercial-scale green electrofuel facility with a final investment decision (FID) in place.
FlagshipONE and FlagshipTWO will together produce over 150,000 tons of green electrofuel per year and reduce the annual CO2 emissions from international shipping by 200,000 tons.
In addition to FlagshipONE and FlagshipTWO, three more plants are planned for the Nordic Region.
