MISC welcomes eco-efficient LNG carrier pair

MISC Berhad (MISC), an owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, has taken delivery of its new eco-efficient vessels, Seri Damai and Seri Daya.

As informed, Seri Damai and Seri Daya feature advanced technology to cater to the growing need for energy-efficient solutions in the transportation of LNG.

These 174,000 cbm were built by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). Upon their delivery, these new LNG carriers will be on long-term charters to ExxonMobil’s wholly-owned subsidiary SeaRiver Maritime and will be managed by Eaglestar Shipmanagenent.

The LNG carriers have enhanced cargo tank insulation with the GTT Mark-III Flex PLUS cargo containment system which reduces the boil-off rate to 0.07% of cargo volume per day for improved efficiency, according to the company.

Powered by WinGD X-DF propulsion, the vessels fulfill the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier-III emission requirements without any external exhaust gas after-treatment system.

They also comply with the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) standard. Furthermore, they are certified with ENVIRO Notation, a voluntary adoption of integrating ABS requirements with international conventions for environmental protection.

According to MISC, these requirements include, principally, the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM Convention) and the Hong Kong Convention (for the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships).

The LNG carriers include digital and smart shipping technology, specifically, the Samsung SVESSEL technology for enhanced safety and efficiency through remote monitoring of vessel performance and operations.

“The delivery of Seri Damai and Seri Daya today, marks a strong start to the year and a significant milestone in MISC’s partnership with SeaRiver Maritime,” Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam , MISC’s President & Group Chief Executive Officer, said.

“The Seri Daya and Seri Damai represent another major milestone in the valued relationship between SeaRiver Maritime, MISC Berhad, and Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard,” said Andre Kostelnik , President & CEO of SeaRiver Maritime.

“This is a step forward in supporting a net-zero future as we add modern, energy-efficient LNG carriers to support ExxonMobil’s growing LNG business.”

Seri Damai and Seri Daya will now add on to the fleet strength, which currently totals to a count of 31 LNG carriers for MISC’s GAS Business, in addition to six very large ethane carriers (VLECs) and two LNG floating storage units (FSUs), which have a combined deadweight tonnage capacity of over two million tonnes.
