Offshore drilling contractor Stena Drilling has secured a contract extension with energy giant BP for a mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) to be deployed in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
Stena Drilling revealed on 7 February that it had signed a contract extension with BP for the Stena IceMAX MODU.
The extension shall see the MODU mobilize to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico in direct continuation of the initial one-well program offshore Newfoundland, with an estimated duration of 90 days, for a further scope of two years.
Delivered in 2012, Stena IceMAX is a dynamically positioned, dual mast ice-class drillship, which is capable of drilling in water depths up to 10, 000ft.
This harsh environment DP Class 3 drillship secured a drilling contract with BP in July 2022 for operations offshore Canada.
When it comes to Stena Drilling’s other recent deals, it is worth mentioning that the company revealed on 3 February that a contract had been signed with Ithaca Energy for the Stena Spey drilling rig.
The operations for the rig on the UKCS are due to start between 1 June 2023 and 1 September 2023.
Earlier this year, the offshore drilling contractor also won a contract with Shell’s subsidiaries BG Delta Limited and BG International Limited for operations offshore Egypt for the Stena Forth drillship.
