Norwegian energy giant Equinor has decided to keep one of Island Offshore’s offshore supply vessels (OSVs), which performs operations as a platform supply vessel (PSV), busy for seven more months.
Island Offshore reported last week that it had secured a contract for the MV Island Commander with Equinor. This vessel is currently on spot fixture for the same company and is now allowed to hold on for another seven months, with options for 2 + 2 months after this. Hallgeir Linge Reitan , Head of Chartering at Island Offshore, remarked: “We are grateful for yet another contract with Equinor – an environmentally conscious and essential customer for Island Offshore.”
With this contract, Island Offshore has two supply vessels and one walk-to-work vessel at work for Equinor. All three vessels have battery packs installed for hybrid operations. The 2009-built Island Commander vessel can accommodate 29 people.
As a reminder, Equinor extended a contract with Island Offshore Shipholding LP for four years in October 2022 for Island Clipper . This is a combined platform supply vessel and walk-to-work vessel. The Island Clipper vessel has supported the Oseberg field in the past and is scheduled to also work on the Hywind Tampen offshore wind farm.
In addition, a collaborative project is ongoing between the parties assessing the possibilities for modifying the LNG-powered vessel Island Crusader to use ammonia as fuel. The overall goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 per cent by use of ammonia fuel.
