Gasum bolsters presence in the Netherlands for new opportunities in LNG maritime market

Nordic energy company Gasum is strengthening its presence in the ARA region by registering for business in the Netherlands through its Swedish entity Gasum AB.

Gasum AB has been entered into the Dutch trade register in February this year. The company said that being registered as a legal entity in the Netherlands opens up new opportunities for the future in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) maritime market.

“LNG usage in maritime transport will increase significantly in the near future. Upcoming EU emissions regulations are expected to increase interest and uptake of lower emission alternatives, of which LNG is currently the most viable. The continental Northwest Europe region is a huge emerging market and Gasum is well positioned as an experienced player to take a significant piece of it” , Jacob Granqvist , Vice President, Maritime at Gasum, stated.

Expanding maritime LNG operations in the Northwest Europe region is part of Gasum’s strategy along with the increasing availability of biogas on the market significantly in the next five years.

The company has been active in the Norwest Europe region for some time now which was confirmed recently through heads of agreement (HoA) with Pavilion Energy and CNOOC Gas and Power Group. The parties agreed to work on strengthening a global LNG bunker supply network for their customers in the world’s top three bunkering regions, namely Singapore, North West Europe, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp, as well as China coastal areas.

At the end of last year, Gasum also extended its LNG bunkering contract with Norwegian energy company Equinor.
