Eni and SPP sign gas and LNG cooperation agreement

Italy’s Eni and Slovakia’s SPP have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on commercial cooperation in the gas and LNG sector, aimed at identifying initiatives to contribute to Slovakia’s ability to diversify gas supplies.

Under the agreement, the two companies are expected to evaluate initiatives in the areas of trading and management of regasification and transportation capacities to secure and strengthen the strategic supply of natural gas to be consumed in the Slovak Republic.

Eni said the signature highlights potential areas of cooperation and collaboration among European energy players to enhance the continent’s access to safe, reliable, and sustainable energy sources.

Energy security is high on the agenda in Europe and around the world, and companies, including Eni and SPP, are aiming to provide energy that is secure, affordable, and lower in carbon.

Eni has been working on multiple LNG projects, achieving several milestones in the last few months.

At the beginning of the year, its Damietta LNG plant in Egypt, which is a joint venture with Egypt’s EGAS, produced and loaded its 500th LNG cargo since the operation start-up in 2005.

In Congo, Eni’s LNG project gained ground. Eni Congo, Eni’s subsidiary, and UK-based energy services provider Expro Group entered a long-term production solutions contract under which Expro will design, construct, operate, and maintain a fast-track onshore LNG pre-treatment facility (OPT) as part of the Marine XII development offshore Congo.
