UK-headquartered energy giant BP has decided to extend the agreement to all five of its North Sea oil and gas assets with Aize, a digital twin software provider.

Aize reported on Monday, 24 April 2023, that it was helping BP to manage engineering and operational data, giving users a common digital view of the physical assets, and consolidating information from internal and external sources into a user-friendly workspace .

According to the company, BP has embraced the Aize digital twin solution in the North Sea region as its “system of insight,” enabling the UK giant to create and augment processes supporting maintenance, inspection, modifications and turnarounds.

Anders Brun , Aize CCO, remarked: “The collaboration with BP has been invaluable in getting customer and user insight to develop a product that enables experts to do their jobs even better. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to extend this collaboration with one of the leading operators globally.”

Based on the digital twin software provider’s statement, BP believes that the visualisation of the assets, which a digital twin solution provides, empowers its teams to operate safely and efficiently. This agreement is a culmination of an extended period of close work between the two companies, with a product-focused mindset as the main driver.

Jason Brown , Aize SVP and Manager Strategic Accounts, commented: “Our work with BP is helping us develop our product every day. We are now onboarding BP end-users continuously, which means increasing our knowledge base by the minute.”

As the North Sea remains an important region for BP, the UK player claims to have “a strong portfolio” focused around the ETAP and Andrew hubs in the central North Sea and the Clair , Schiehallion and Foinaven areas west of Shetland.

Regarding BP’s recent activities elsewhere, it is worth noting that the oil major kicked off oil production earlier in April 2023 from its fifth operated production platform in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and the first new one since 2008 when Thunder Horse came online.

This platform is the crown jewel in the project bestowing a new lease of life on the super-giant Mad Dog oil field.
