Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has launched the first 13,000 TEU containership powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) for French shipping giant CMA CGM.
As informed, the launching took place on 15 May. The ship is the latest generation of green, environment-friendly, high-efficiency and energy-saving container ships in the world.
The boxship has a total length of 336 meters and a width of 51 meters. The cargo tank has a capacity of 14,000 cbm.
Specifically, the vessel includes GTT’s Mark III containment system. After completion, it will be the largest dual-fuel container ship operating on the South American route, according to the shipbuilder.
The main engine of the ship has been upgraded and adopts a new generation of global Intelligent Controlled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (ICER ) system, which can reduce methane slip by 50% in gas mode and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28%, the company emphasized.
Recently, the shipbuilding company cut steel for the sixth and final dual-fuel LNG powered 13,000TEU dual-fuel for CMA CGM.
CMA CGM’s 13,000 TEU containerships are part of CMA CGM’s $2.3 billion dual-fuel, LNG-powered containership order from April 2021.
Last month, the French heavyweight returned to Chinese shipyards with a massive order worth $3.06 billion. The company signed a contract with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for the construction of 16 large container ships.
