Misje Rederi christens 2nd EcoBulk hybrid vessel

Norwegian shipowner Misje Rederi AS has christened the second vessel in the eco bulk carrier series from Sri Lanka-based shipbuilder Colombo Dockyard, Misje Verde.

As disclosed, the christening ceremony took place last week in the home port of Bergen.

The Norwegian shipping company took delivery of the ship in April this year. The 89.95-metre-long vessel is designed to hold a cargo capacity of 5,000 dwt.

In August 2020, Misje Rederi ordered up to ten eco bulk carriers from Colombo Dockyard. The type of cargo they will carry includes bulk cargo, grain, timber, unit loads and containers.

Each vessel is powered by four-stroke diesel engine with an electric hybrid system supplying additional power through a battery system.

According to the shipyard, the bulkers are developed as eco-friendly vessels, as they will have lower emissions compared to conventional bulk carriers of the same size. The concept and the basic design of the ships were developed by Wartsila Ship Design Norway AS.
