Wood allies with Transitus on decarbonization in United Kingdom

Consulting and engineering company Wood has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with energy transition company Transitus Energy to explore opportunities for onshore and offshore decarbonization projects across the United Kingdom (U.K.) energy industry.

According to Wood, the two companies will collaborate to develop a fit-for-purpose duty-holder model to support future infrastructure investments, and position Wood as a strategic partner, providing onshore and offshore lifecycle asset management engineering and operational solutions.

Transitus Energy said it intends to enable industrial fuel switching and transition natural gas production to low-carbon hydrogen, adding that Wood will support Transitus and its decarbonization strategy by collaborating on operating models, capability and solutions that are ready for responsible, efficient and safe production, whilst supporting the development of the energy transition and hydrogen production market.

Stuart Smith, Senior Vice President, Operated Assets at Wood, stated: “Wood is committed to accelerating the energy transition in the U.K., enabling a low-carbon energy future by supporting the decarbonization of existing assets and leveraging our decades of experience in the North Sea. Our team will work with Transitus to bring their decarbonization strategy to life, utilizing our through-lifecycle expertise.”

Jack Peck, CEO of Transitus Energy, said that Wood will be an essential part of its project strategy, noting: “We believe that our model offers a way to do the energy transition rapidly and affordably, repurposing existing expertise and resources to pragmatically accelerate the U.K.’s decarbonization plans.”

To note, in May this year, Wood teamed up with gas distribution company SGN to accelerate plans for key hydrogen transmission infrastructure in Scotland and southern England that supports the U.K.’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050, and in December 2022, Transitus and Proteum Energy signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to explore joint development opportunities in the U.K., Netherlands, Republic of Ireland, and Norway to produce low-carbon hydrogen.
