MSC welcomes another eco-friendly 16K TEU boxship from DSIC

Dalian Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has delivered a 16,000TEU containership to Swiss shipping giant MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.

As informed, the vessel MSC Anita was named and delivered on January 9. According to the shipbuilder, the vessel, which is the second boxship delivered to MSC, adopts the design concept of safety and environmental protection.

Furthermore, the hull line is specially optimized and equipped with high-efficiency rudder propellers and energy-saving devices. This includes shaft generators and air bubble technology. The ship’s speed can reach up to 25 knots.

The main engine and generator are each equipped with an independent scrubber, to meet the latest regulatory requirements and various emission standards, according to DSIC.

To remind, in August last year, DSIC delivered and named MSC Vivienne. Capable of accommodating 16,520 standard containers, this ship has been given the LNG-ready class notation, which means that its design enables it to be easily converted to run on LNG.

Initially, the ship is expected to sail on conventional fuel. However, the DNV-classed ship is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber).

Meanwhile, the shipbuilder also held a steel-cutting ceremony for an LNG dual-fuel 16,000 TEU boxship for MSC. The ceremony took place on January 5.

The new eco-friendly boxships are a part of MSC’s decarbonization strategy, Recently, the Swiss shipping major named 24,000+ TEU fuel-efficient containership MSC Celestino Maresca at Italy’s largest port, Gioia Tauro.
