Italian contractor Rosetti Marino has bid goodbye to a new jacket and topside, which embarked on a trip to their final destination to be installed at TotalEnergies’ gas project located 60 km off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in southern Argentina.

Following TotalEnergies’ final investment decision (FID) for the Fenix gas development project , Rosetti Marino secured an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract for a platform, consisting of a topside, jacket, and foundation piles for the production of 10 million m3/day of gas.

At the time, the Italian player revealed that the Fenix wellhead platform (WHP), which would have a total weight of more than 4,000 tons, would be installed at a water depth of about 70 meters. While design activities were underway at the firm’s Milan offices, the construction was expected to be done at the Piomboni Yard located in Ravenna Harbour.

The delivery was originally scheduled for November 2023. The steel pipes for the project were to be delivered by Corinth Pipeworks , with installation work expected to begin in 2023. According to Rosetti Marino, the jacket and topside have left its yard and set sail toward Tierra del Fuego, after being “successfully and safely” loaded out onto the HTV Interocean II heavy load carrier vessel.

TotalEnergies and its partners plan to invest about $706 million to develop Fenix through three horizontal wells, drilled from a new unmanned platform. The gas will be transported through a 35 km subsea pipeline to the French energy giant’s Véga Pleyade platform and treated onshore at the Rio Cullen and Cañadon Alfa plants, also operated by the company.

The start-up of production from Fenix is set to take place in early 2025. TotalEnergies operates the project with a 37.5% interest, in partnership with WintershallDea (37.5%) and Pan American Sur (25%). Fenix will produce 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Recently, Rosetti Marino was hired by Snam Rete Gas, through a temporary association of companies with Saipem and Micoperi, for work on the facilities for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to be developed for deployment in the Adriatic Sea, off the coast of Ravenna, Italy.
