TechnipFMC has secured a contract that it describes as “significant” to deliver subsea services for BP in the Gulf of Mexico.

TechnipFMC has been awarded a contract by BP for its Argos Southwest Extension project in the Mad Dog field, under which it will install pipe and an umbilical, tying back three new wells to the Argos platform.

Under the contract, the company will also manufacture and install pipeline end terminations.

Jonathan Landes , President, Subsea at TechnipFMC, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with bp, underpinned by close collaboration. This partnership, combined with our robust installation and execution capabilities, enables us to meet bp’s schedule to extend the production in the Mad Dog field.”

For TechnipFMC, a “significant” contract is the one between $75 million and $250 million. This award was included in the fourth quarter 2023 Subsea inbound orders.

Argos is the centerpiece of BP’s Mad Dog Phase 2 project, which extends the life of the Mad Dog field, discovered in 1998. This platform has a waterflood injection capacity of more than 140,000 barrels of low-salinity water per day to help increase oil recovery from the super-giant oil field.

Standing 27 stories tall, the platform has a deck with the length and width of an American football field and weighs more than 60,000 tons. BP is the operator with a 60.5% working interest while its co-owners include Woodside Energy (23.9%) and Union Oil Company of California, an affiliate of Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (15.6%).

According to BP, Argos is its “most digitally advanced” platform operating in the Gulf of Mexico, featuring its proprietary LoSal Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and dynamic digital twin technologies.
