Subsea7 has awarded the Netherlands-based Huisman with a contract to deliver a full electric offshore mast crane for one of its pipelay vessels that will be deployed for deep water installations.
The 500mt offshore mast crane will be equipped with a passive and active heave compensation system on the main hoist to counteract the vessel’s heave motion when landing a product onto the seabed.
Huisman said it had upgraded its heave compensation system with a variety of new control modes to extend the operational window. According to the company, the small rectangular footprint of this crane allows for easy integration with the vessel’s steel structure and direct installation of the crane on the stern, achieving a large effective outreach and reducing integration costs.
The crane will be built at the company’s production facility in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

In October 2023, Huisman launched a renewed series of its subsea knuckle boom cranes for use in the subsea construction market, taking into account energy efficiency, automation and safety.
A few months later the company unveiled a cable-lay system that ensures fast mobilization and demobilization – a development said to have been spurred by the growing market need for diverse deployment scenarios of multi-purpose vessels (MPVs).
Huisman took The Stage at the Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference held in November in Amsterdam to talk about digitalization and its approach to adding value to customers via digitalization.
