Tenerife-based shipping agency and logistics operator Canarship has revealed that a sixth-generation semi-submersible rig from COSL Offshore Management, part of COSL Drilling Europe, is now on its way to Norway, where it will undergo repairs before starting its pending drilling assignments.
After embarking on a three-month journey from the Port of San Ya, China, COSL Drilling Europe’s COSL Prospector rig made stops in New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa, before reaching the Port of Las Palmas in the northeast of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, on December 26, 2023.
The rig was expected to stay at the Zamakona shipyards for approximately 20 days, in a bid to carry out maintenance and crew change. With a drilling depth of 7,500 meters, the COSL Prospector rig is of GG5000 design and can operate in water depths up to 1,500 meters.
Following 26 days of various technical works at the Zamakona shipyards and refueling, the 2014-built rig set sail on Saturday, January 20, heading towards the CCB shipyards in Norway, where it is anticipated to undergo a repair project to ensure optimal performance on its next journey.
Commenting on the rig’s departure, Canarship, remarked: “We want to express our gratitude and wish a safe journey to the exceptional team that makes up the COSL Prospector. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as agents in Las Palmas!”
At the start of September 2023, the rig secured a two-year contract with Vår Energi in the Barents Sea. This deal, which is due to start in the third quarter of 2024, comes with three years of options, resulting in a maximum duration of five years.
The contract builds on the cooperation between Vår Energi and Equinor, enabling the duo to secure access to this rig for the period 2024-2026.
