MAN Cryo, part of Germany’s engine producer MAN Energy Solutions, revealed that its design for an ammonia fuel supply system has been awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) from classification societies DNV and Bureau Veritas.
MAN Cryo developed the system in cooperation with Chinese company Yada Green Energy Solutions, with whom the company has previously cooperated to provide equipment for LNG and methanol marine fuels.

A month ago, MAN ES, in collaboration with compatriot stainless steel processor Butting, said that the world’s first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converter intended for an ammonia engine had passed its factory acceptance test.
Measuring an impressive 3.9 meters in diameter and boasting a weight of 28 metric tonnes, the Cluster 5 Double Layer, built by Butting, has been described as the largest SCR converter built to date. It is also the world’s first SCR (High Pressure) designed for a commercial two-stroke ammonia engine.
What is more, MAN ES signed a contract last week with Turkish powership builder and owner Karpowership for the delivery of a total of 48 dual-fuel engines for Karpowership’s fleet of power plant ships.
