Malaysia’s energy solutions provider T7 Global has unveiled its new mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) at a grand naming ceremony held at the grounds of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Beihai Shipyard in Qing Dao, China. This MOPU, which represents the Malaysian player’s first foray into Thai waters, will now embark on a journey to the Gulf of Thailand, where it will work at an offshore oil field.

As T7 Global’s MOPU TSEVEN SHIRLEY has been completed, it is expected to set sail for the Nong Yao oil field in the Gulf of Thailand soon, where it will be leased to the operator of the field, Canada’s Valeura Energy, in support of the Nong Yao C development. According to the Malaysian firm, the RM400 million ($84.67 million) contract is poised to provide long-term financial visibility upon first oil.

Tan Kay Zhuin , T7 Global Group Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We are delighted to share the successful naming ceremony for TSEVEN SHIRLEY, marking the completion of the construction phase. Following the ceremony, TSEVEN SHIRLEY will start its journey to the Nong Yao field to continue with the remaining activities.”

Recently, Valeura Energy outlined its plans for 2024 , which entail a drilling program across multiple offshore fields in the Gulf of Thailand to boost production. At the time, the firm anticipated transporting the MOPU to the Nong Yao field in February 2024, where it would be connected by pipeline to the existing field infrastructure to serve as the wellhead production platform for the Nong Yao C field extension.

“This MOPU shall begin its charter in 2024 for the next five years ensuring long-term financial visibility for the group, similar to the ten-year charter of TSEVEN ELISE MOPU in Malaysia waters. The group will focus on expanding its offshore energy assets as one of the growth drivers in the coming years,” added Zhuin.

Soon after installation and commissioning, Valeura intends to kick off a drilling program of nine development wells – six producers and three water injectors – while simultaneously performing debottlenecking works on the existing facilities to accommodate the new production. The first production from the Nong Yao C extension is expected in June 2024.

Located in the central portion of the Pattani basin in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 160 km offshore, in 75 meters of water depth, the Nong Yao oil field is estimated to contain 12.4 million bbls of 2P oil reserves, on a net working interest acquired basis.
