Brazilian state-owned oil and gas giant Petrobras has appointed Norwegian Kanfa, a Technip Energies company, to deliver an offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) study.

KANFA said its scope includes the delivery of a significant study for its Canopy Marine, a compact column, amine-based, post-combustion carbon capture system.

Petrobras aims to conduct a comprehensive study to understand the technology and confirm its technical and economic feasibility for capturing CO2 from power generation offshore, having the ultimate goal of implementing this technology on its offshore assets in the future.

“I was personally involved in this project from the first day Petrobras showed interest in KANFA’s capabilities and am very proud that we were selected for this work,” said Andreas Dinzinger, Director of Engineering at KANFA.

“Petrobras is taking important steps towards net zero and we are excited to be able to contribute to this by sharing our extensive knowledge within compact modular solutions for offshore CCS.”

The study will be carried out from KANFA’s primary office located in Lysaker, Norway.

In terms of the most recent news coming from Petrobras, the Brazilian giant is aiming to enable reliable subsea production at its field in the Campos Basin with a seal-less canned motor boosting system delivered by a North Carolina-headquartered company.

Namely, Petrobras signed a technology cooperation agreement with Curtiss-Wright Corporation to design, manufacture, test, and provide operational support for a subsea canned motor boosting system, to be deployed mudline at a Petrobras production field.
