Norwegian seismic company PGS has signed an agreement with Shell for its cloud-based digital asset management solution designed specifically for seismic data, which is set to enable the UK-headquartered energy giant to streamline access to seismic data and accelerate workflows.
This Data OnDemand Agreement complements the MultiClient Library Access agreement the two companies established in 2022 .
By leveraging the platform, Shell gains direct access to the seismic datasets it has licensed from the PGS data library. According to PGS, the solution seamlessly connects Shell’s exploration teams to the seismic data they need, and with rapid access, the company can focus on informed decision-making in the dynamic energy landscape.
Nathan Oliver , Executive Vice President of Sales & Services at PGS, said: “Our customers want accelerated access to data in order to make time-critical decisions. Being able to move quickly and reduce risk is a competitive advantage in a fast-changing energy landscape.”
Furthermore, PGS reported today, February 22, that it had secured a 3D project in the Mediterranean for a major energy company and the Ramform Hyperion is scheduled to start the survey in early March.
The project has a total duration of approximately 30 days.
“We are very pleased with this acquisition project award, extending the Ramform Hyperion’s campaign in the Mediterranean until the end of March. After completing this project, the Ramform Hyperion will steam to the Norwegian continental shelf and commence well pre-funded MultiClient projects,” said Rune Olav Pedersen , President and CEO of PGS.
UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life below water
PGS also earlier this month signed an agreement with HUB Ocean to harness industry ocean data to advance scientific understanding, mitigate negative impacts on the environment, and bring positive value to the scientific community and company operations.
The collaboration is based on HUB Ocean’s Ocean Data Platform (ODP) and PGS’ ocean data contributions to facilitate scientific collaboration with the intention to develop Use Cases and derive valuable insights to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life below water.
The first defined Use Case focuses on integrating marine biota with additional oceanographic data from the waters off Brazil to better understand marine mammal distribution patterns along the country’s coastline.
PGS said it can use improved predictions of mammal presence to optimize seismic data acquisition, allowing the company to avoid unplanned stoppages due to marine mammal observations.
HUB Ocean’s core mission is to gather, combine, and standardize new and open data sources in compliance with the scientific F-A-I-R standards (Findable- Accessible- Interoperable and Reusable) on the Ocean Data Platform and actively involve the scientific community in use cases. PGS will contribute specific datasets crucial to its operations, provide knowledge in relevant domains, and facilitate collaboration between the organizations’ data and environmental experts.
