EH Group receives DNV’s blessing for marine fuel cell system

Swiss technology company EH Group has been granted an approval in principle (AiP) from classification and certification society DNV for its marine fuel cell system.

Swiss technology company EH Group has been granted an approval in principle (AiP) from classification and certification society DNV for its marine fuel cell system.

According to the company, its fuel cell system TRACE-M250 designed for high power and maritime applications has been assessed by DNV. This independent review confirmed that the fuel cell design meets all the applicable maritime rules, regulations, codes and standards.

“Achieving Approval in Principle is a key milestone for EH Group. It demonstrates our commitment towards standards and norms, and an important step in deploying our cutting edge technology towards the decarbonisation of the marine sector,” said Mardit Matian , Founder of EH Group.

Based on EH Group’s stack technology, the EH TRACE-M250 module is designed to set new standards for maritime fuel cell system efficiency and safety, in a more compact and lightweight module.

EH Group concluded that the process is already underway for ‘Type Approval’ for its technology.

Headquartered in Switzerland, EH Group is focused on the design and production of innovative fuel cell technology. Its goal is to accelerate the large-scale deployment of hydrogen fuel cells for a decarbonized future.

Last week, the company joined H2Marine, a co-funded initiative by the EU’s Clean Hydrogen Partnership and SERI (Switzerland). The project is committed to innovation in hydrogen technologies, focused on the development of next-generation PEM fuel cell stacks for marine applications.

It entails the comprehensive process of designing, assembly, and testing FC stacks, engineered to generate 250-300 kW of electrical power.

The H2Marine project consortium consists of 13 partners across Europe, including key R&D institutes like VTT, EPFL, ZSW, University of Freiburg, and companies such as Beyond Gravity, CluBE, CLEOS, DANA REINZ-DICHTUNGS-GmbH, Greenerity GmbH, PowerCell Sweden AB, and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.
