Norway-based Shearwater Geoservices has won two 4D monitoring projects from Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned energy giant, for the Mariner field in the UK North Sea and the Heidrun field in the Norwegian Sea.

Shearwater plans to utilize its Isometrix technology for conducting surveys, employing 4D seismic monitoring to observe reservoir dynamics over time. This approach aims to improve reservoir management and boost production efficiency.

This marks the fourth deployment of Isometrix for Mariner, adding to previous surveys conducted in 2020 and 2022 , and the third deployment for Heidrun, following surveys carried out in 2018 and 2021.

According to Shearwater, the surveys, scheduled to last two months, will be conducted by the SW Amundsen and an undershoot vessel.

“These projects underscore our shared ambition for pioneering and repeating production monitoring solutions, and we look forward to once more supporting Equinor in navigating towards the efficient optimisation of resources,” said the company.

“Our dedication to providing top-tier seismic technology and expertise will provide Equinor with the insights needed to continue delivering long-term, sustainable value creation from the Mariner and Heidrun fields.”

Recently, Shearwater secured a contract for Spirit Energy ’s recent carbon storage license award by the UK’s North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), located in the Morecambe Bay area.
