Maersk Training, part of Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk, and compatriot Green Marine, a pioneer in methanol-powered maritime solutions, have entered into a strategic partnership to establish Maersk Training powered by Green Marine.
As explained, the collaboration aims to become “the leading provider” of training solutions for the transition to sustainable maritime fuels, with an initial focus on methanol.
“The urgency for decarbonisation in the maritime industry is undeniable,” Jan Tore Knutsen , Head of the Simulations Division at Maersk Training, pointed out.
“This partnership with Green Marine allows us to leverage their unparalleled expertise in methanol operations and combine it with our extensive training experience to equip seafarers with the skills they need to navigate the green transition.”
The demand for alternative fuel training is rapidly increasing as the maritime industry strives to meet stricter environmental regulations and achieve ambitious decarbonization goals.
Green Marine brings to the table over a decade of practical experience in operating methanol-powered vessels, making them “ideally suited” to address this growing need.

Maersk Training powered by Green Marine will offer a comprehensive training portfolio encompassing technical training, safety procedures, and best practices for energy-efficient operations. The training will be delivered through a variety of formats, including immersive simulations, online modules, and instructor-led courses, ensuring accessibility for seafarers of all experience levels.
This partnership positions Maersk Training powered by Green Marine to become a one-stop shop for training across the entire methanol value chain, from production and bunkering to vessel operations. This will empower shipping companies to navigate the green transition with confidence and contribute to a more sustainable maritime future, according to the duo.
Last year, a DNV study found that 81% of seafarers expressed a necessity for partial or complete training to effectively handle the advanced technologies expected to be deployed on future ships.
Additionally, over 75% of respondents indicated a need for training on new fuel types, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), batteries, or synthetic fuels. The demand for training on emerging fuels like ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol surged even higher, reaching 87% among survey participants.
