Science Based Targets initiative approves Fugro's net-zero targets

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Fugro’s near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets.

Fugro’s net-zero target spans all three emission scopes, with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain by 2050.

“This validation by the Science Based Targets initiative underscores Fugro’s strong dedication to its purpose to create a safe and liveable world. We firmly believe that aligning our decarbonisation efforts with the 1.5°C global warming limit is essential for a sustainable future,” said Mark Heine , Fugro’s CEO.

“Fugro’s science-based targets help us to further action our roadmap to net-zero and underpin our decarbonisation efforts in Fugro’s own operations as well as in our supply chain.”

Fugro in 2020 introduced its roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emission operations by 2035 for scope 1 and 2. The Dutch company is in the process of rolling out its uncrewed vessel fleet and converting the Fugro Pioneer vessel to green methanol.

In the near-term target , Fugro’s goal includes the reduction of absolute scope 1 & 2 emissions by 54.6% by 2033, in scope 2 increase in active sourcing of renewable electricity from 47% to 80% by 2025, rising to 100% by 2030, and in scope 3 the reduction of absolute scope 3 fuel and energy-related GHG emissions by 54.6% by 2033 as well as 60% of suppliers by spend to have science-based methodology aligned targets by 2028.

In terms of the long-term target , the aim is to reduce scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions by at least 90% by 2050. The roadmap also includes the plan for a 25% reduction in emission intensity from own vessels by 2027 and net-zero carbon emission operations (scope 1 and scope 2) by 2035.
