Norway-based cleantech service provider Soiltech has secured another contract with Odfjell Drilling, a Scotland-based offshore drilling player, to provide services on the UK player’s third semi-submersible rig.
Thanks to a deal for the treatment of contaminated water on the Deepsea Stavanger sixth generation and harsh environment semi-submersible rig, Soiltech will provide its Slop Treatment Technology, which is a solution for waste reduction by treating water contaminated with oil and particles.
While the start-up of activities related to the new contract is slated for the second quarter of 2024, this will be the third Odfjell Drilling-owned harsh environment rig for which the Norwegian firm provides the same services, as it is already delivering these to Deepsea Aberdeen and Deepsea Atlantic rigs. Equinor hired the Deepsea Stavanger semi-sub in May 2021 and the rig started the contract in February 2022. While the Norwegian state-owned energy giant added several additional wells to the contract, the latest one came in May 2023 . These wells were expected to keep the rig booked into the first quarter of 2024.
The 2010-built rig is a sixth-generation deepwater and harsh environment semi-submersible of an enhanced GVA 7500 design. The rig is capable of working at water depths of up to 3,000 meters and can accommodate 157 people. The rig’s drilling depth capacity is 10,670 meters.
Soiltech has tucked several new contracts under its belt, including those with WintershallDea and Petrogas , Shelf Drilling , and Equinor .
