As its current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) steps down from the role, Norway’s pure-play carbon capture company Aker Carbon Capture (ACC) has appointed an interim CFO, who will take the reins in 2Q 2024.

As a result, Aker Carbon Capture’s Head of Group Controlling, Petter Natås, will step in as interim CFO while Julie Berg takes on the CFO position at ACC’s sister company, Mainstream Renewable Power, starting in 2Q 2024. Berg, who has held the CFO position at Aker Carbon Capture since December 2023, has 27 years of experience in finance. She is a state authorized public accountant in Norway, who previously worked as Head of KPMG ’s Audit & Assurance group in Oslo.

On the other hand, Natås is a financial expert with more than 20 years of experience. He held several senior finance positions in the Aker Group before his latest appointment, including Group Chief Controller in Aker Horizons , and VP Finance and Director Group Controlling in Aker Solutions . Prior to that, he worked as Chief Accountant at Ericsson .

Egil Fagerland , Chief Executive Officer of Aker Carbon Capture, remarked: “Julie has played an integral role in the process of developing an agreement to form a joint venture between Aker Carbon Capture and SLB, as announced in March. We are truly grateful for her contribution, and we’re appreciative that the Aker group will continue to benefit from her leadership skills and expertise as CFO of Mainstream.”

As announced in March , SLB and ACC are set to combine their respective carbon capture businesses in Aker Carbon Capture Holding . Subject to regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close by the end of 2Q 2024, and the Norwegian company’s board of directors is still considering management options for the new entity.

Commenting on the new appointment, Mainstream’s Group CEO, Mary Quaney, noted: “I am delighted to welcome Julie to Mainstream. Julie is a highly accomplished leader in her field; she brings many years of experience including within the Aker group, and a passion for the energy transition. I very much look forward to working with her as we embark on the next exciting chapter in Mainstream’s mission to lead the transition to renewable energy.”

Berg will take over her new role from Paul Corrigan , who will stay at the company as its Commercial Director. As Corrigan has experience with Mainstream’s Energia portfolios in Chile, he will be in charge of overseeing the company’s commercial activities in Latin American markets.
