Norway’s energy data and intelligence provider, TGS, has won an ocean bottom node (OBN) data acquisition contract in North America that is expected to take over six months to complete.

TGS did not reveal any other information about the contract or the work scope, except that the six-month-plus contract is granted by a “returning client” .

The project is set to improve the client’s ability to acquire seismic data, enabling better decision-making, TGS said.

“This initiative demonstrates the vital role that OBN acquisition plays in providing our clients with superior seismic data. We are pleased to continue our efforts in North America and look forward to supporting our client’s needs with our advanced data solutions,” said Kristian Johansen , CEO at TGS.

Recently, TGS secured another OBN data acquisition contract for a repeat customer in the North Sea. The three-month proprietary OBN data acquisition was set to begin in the second quarter of 2024.

In April 2024, TGS and PGS received clearance from the Norwegian Competition Authority (NCA) for their merger. As explained on February 14, 2024, the merger was subject to review by the competition authorities in the UK and Norway.

Last month, a consortium of PGS, TGS, and SLB also embarked on a multi-client 3D seismic project set to provide insights and assess the carbon storage potential across the Penyu Basin area in Malaysia.

Obtaining this new seismic data will allow clients to assess exploration and carbon storage potential for the upcoming Malaysia Bid Round more effectively.
