Subsea7 and OneSubsea get more work for 'one of Türkiye's largest energy projects'

Subsea Integration Alliance, a strategic alliance between OneSubsea and Subsea7, has secured a contract deemed as “large” with the Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) for a natural gas project in the Black Sea in Türkiye.

An initial contract was awarded in May 2023 to a consortium of SLB, Subsea Integration Alliance and Saipem for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the second development phase (2a) of the Sakarya gas field.

This new award expands the existing contract with Subsea Integration Alliance to include the installation of Türkiye’s first floating production unit (FPU) as part of Phase 2a development.

Subsea7 is in charge of the installation and integration of risers, umbilicals, hook-ups and mooring systems with the FPU.

Project management and engineering will be coordinated through the company’s office in Istanbul.

The contract is worth between $300 million and $500 million and the award will be booked in backlog in Q2 2024.

Franck Louvety , Senior Vice President of Subsea7’s Global Project Centre – West said: “Today’s award extends Subsea7’s involvement in the ongoing development of Türkiye’s first deepwater gas field. In collaboration with TP-OTC, Subsea7 and our consortium partners will now deliver another milestone for the country – its first FPU installation.”

Described as one of the largest energy projects ever built in Türkiye, the Sakarya gas development entails the establishment of a subsea production facility at a depth of 2,200 meters, 170 kilometers north of Filyos, the construction of a gas receiving and processing terminal on the Filyos shore, and the construction of pipelines to connect two units on land and sea.

The giant natural gas project achieved first gas on April 20, 2023.
