Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has declared plans for Regulatory Period 4 (RP4) 2025-2027 with significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) to support the country’s energy transition and meet the projected growth in electricity demand, which includes a hybrid hydro floating solar project.

With TNB leading the charge, we are confident in fostering a sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future for all,” said TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan.
TNB is leading three large-scale renewable energy and clean technology initiatives under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR): Hybrid Hydro Floating Solar (HHFS) , Centralised Large-Scale Solar (LSS) parks, and hydrogen and ammonia co-firing projects.
These initiatives aim to deliver over 3,000MW of renewable energy capacity by 2040, including around 2,500MW from HHFS technology and 500MW from five LSS parks. TNB plans to install up to 230MW of HHFS capacity at the Temenggor and Chenderoh hydro plants by 2025.
“We are committed to driving growth and achieving Net Zero targets, guided by the Energy Transition Plan. By focusing on the pillars of our strategic focus – Energy Sources, Energy Vector and Energy Usage, we aim to deliver clean energy generation, develop energy transition networks, and promote dynamic energy solutions,” said Megat Jalaluddin.
TNB has enhanced its governance structures in line with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and responsible corporate conduct.
“Strengthening governance in the ESG context is a testament to our dedication to sustainable practices,” said Megat Jalaluddin. “In the coming months, we will continue maximising operational efficiency and effectiveness, as well as our commitment to sustainability. Therefore, we are confident that we can reach our objectives for 2024.”
In February 2024, TNB started an HHFS project , after a successful floating solar trial project that was commissioned in 2019. This project is also being developed under NETR, at the company’s hydro dam lake after the success of the floating solar trial project in the ash pond of the Sultan Azlan Shah Power Station (SJSAS) in Manjung, Perak.
