Danish shipping company Norden has wrapped up the 100% biofuel (B100) bunkering in Singapore, reaching a new milestone in its ambition to contribute to the industry’s decarbonization.
According to Norden, the operation marked the first ever B100 bunkering in Singapore.
Norden was commissioned by Japan-based trading company ITOCHU Corporation to conduct the B100 biofuel bunkering, following the trial of a B24/VLSFO blend on Panamax vessel Nord Taurus.
The bunkering was carried out with support from bunker supplier Mitsui & Co. Energy Trading Singapore (METS), a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. In 2023, biofuel sales in Singapore reached 520,000 tonnes according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), representing a material increase on the prior year when volumes were 140,000 tonnes.

The week before, we did the first B100 bunkering on our Capesize NORD STEEL in Rotterdam, further adding to our aspirations to be a frontrunner within the decarbonisation of shipping. Last year, Norden invested into MASH Makes, a Danish-Indian biofuel scale-up which researches, develops and produces renewable fuels from biomass waste. The two companies have collaborated on the use of biofuels since 2021.
In 2024, the Danish shipowner acquired four Capesize bulk carrier newbuildings amid increased focus on decarbonization.
