MMA Offshore to enhance vessel capability with large crane order

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received an order it describes as “large” for the delivery of a crane for MMA Offshore’s 11-year-old multi-purpose platform supply vessel.

MacGregor’s 50-tonne active heave compensated (AHC) crane will be installed on board the 83.6-meter-long MMA Valour, which provides offshore work scopes across the energy and offshore wind sectors.

Built in 2013 by Jaya Asiatic Shipyard, the vessel is capable of ROV support and project tasks, as well as standard platform and drilling rig supply, and has performed coiled tubing and fracking campaigns in South East Asia and supported deepwater drillships in the South China Sea.

This contract follows the company’s deliveries of AHC cranes to two other MMA Offshore vessels, MMA Pinnacle and MMA Prestige.

According to MMA Offshore Managing Director, David Ross , the crane will enhance the vessel’s capability to provide a broader range of marine and subsea services to clients.

“The conversion of the Valour to a multi-purpose support vessel will enable the vessel to provide light construction, ROV, survey and geotechnical support in addition to traditional supply services. We are excited to partner with MacGregor for this important conversion,” said Ross .

The contract has been booked into Cargotec’s second-quarter 2024 order intake, with crane supply scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.

Cyan MMA Holdings, a subsidiary of Seraya Partners’ Singapore-headquartered offshore wind vessel operator Cyan Renewables, recently announced its intention to acquire MMA Offshore , thanks to a binding scheme implementation deed (SID) for a proposed acquisition of 100% of the shares in the Australian company via a scheme of arrangement with its shareholders.

Cyan intends to retain MMA’s workforce and utilize and grow the the firm’s expertise, assets, and operating model to expand further into offshore wind support services while continuing to provide a comprehensive suite of marine and subsea services to its existing clients in the offshore energy and wider maritime industries.

To remind, MMA Offshore reported strong demand for its vessels and services in the first FY2024 half-year. With newbuild vessel orders at a historic low and limited additional vessel supply anticipated in the coming couple of years, the company said it was expecting favorable market conditions to continue.
