Cyprus-headquartered seismic company SeaBird Exploration has secured a contract extension with a repeat client that will see its seismic research vessel Eagle Explorer working in the Western Hemisphere.

SeaBird Exploration announced on May 21 that it had won an ocean bottom node (OBN) source contract for Eagle Explorer with an undisclosed repeat client for a period of six months, plus options to extend by another six + six months.

Under a letter of award (LoA), the Cypriot company and the client have agreed to extend the firm duration of the contract from six to 12 months with two six-month options.

Eagle Explorer is currently mobilizing and is expected to commence the contract by the end of June.

With this latest award, SeaBird’s firm backlog has increased to 26 months, or 38 months when including the options. Fulmar Explorer has firm commitments until September 2025 and Eagle Explorer until July 2025.

Eagle Explorer, which can operate as either a 3D, 2D, or source vessel, joined SeaBird’s fleet in 2018 . The 2009-built vessel features 6600 kW diesel-electric propulsion, four Wärtsilä 9L26 3060KW engines and one Wärtsilä 6L26 1950kW @1000 Rpm engine.
