Norwegian short-sea company Wilson ASA has signed a contract for the construction of eight 6,300 dwt future-proof vessels.
This major investment marks another milestone in Wilson’s commitment to sustainability. The vessels are designed to meet the company’s environmental targets.
The newbuildings will be built with a focus on environmental benefits, flexibility, and efficiency, according to Wilson.
The order comes in addition to the six 3,800 dwt vessels announced in June 2023. The agreement included the option for eight more ships.
A total of fourteen newbuildings will be delivered from the first half of 2025 until 2028, with the 6,300 dwt vessels being delivered in direct continuation of the previously announced 3800 dwt vessels.
These new, modern vessels will contribute to both growth and fleet renewal of the existing fleet, Wilson noted.
As part of its environmental strategy, Wilson completed a shore power trial with Wilson Ruhr in Kvinesdal, Norway. The firm has invested funds in getting most of the vessels ready for shore power, and now, around 70% of the vessels are ready to use this new technology.
