TotalEnergies EP Danmark, a subsidiary of France’s energy giant TotalEnergies, is now anticipating that gas production from its giant redevelopment project in the Danish sector of the North Sea will partially resume during the summer. However, efforts to step up output to hit full technical capacity are still expected to continue into the fourth quarter of 2024.
Soon after the much-anticipated restart of gas production from Tyra II , which is said to be Denmark’s largest natural gas field, and the export of the first gas from the Tyra facilities, TotalEnergies, on behalf of its partners in the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC), announced an operational occurrence was temporarily impacting the commissioning of the facilities during the ramp-up and testing period.
The company’s findings in May 2024 indicated that the commissioning and further ramp-up of the export and production from the Tyra II facilities would most likely continue into the fourth quarter of 2024, while the investigation into the operational occurrence with the intermediate pressure (IP) gas compressor station continued.
Regarding the repair of the transformer for the IP gas compressor impacting the timing of the ramp-up to maximum technical capacity, the hook-up and commissioning work on the Tyra West and Tyra satellite fields have been concluded.
However, the operator has confirmed a technical issue with the low pressure (LP) compressor transformer and assured that immediate actions were taken to remedy the impact and initiate repairs, thus, all the teams and external suppliers are fully mobilized.
While these remediation steps are in progress, TotalEnergie underlines that efforts related to testing and commissioning are ongoing, aiming to partially resume production from Tyra II during the summer of 2024. Thanks to these efforts, the Harald field is slated to resume production shortly.
DUC partnership, encompassing TotalEnergies EP Danmark (operator, 43.2%), BlueNord (36.8%), and Nordsøfonden (20%), made a final investment decision (FID) in January 2024 to drill the Harald East Middle Jurassic well (HEMJ). The drilling operations with the Shelf Drilling Winner jack-up rig started in June 2024 in the Harald East area, close to the Norwegian border. This well could be put into production by the end of 2024.
Since the Harald gas production will initially support the Tyra commissioning, only minor additional export volumes are expected, but intermediate solutions are still anticipated to be put in place. TotalEnergies reiterates its previous timeline about the commissioning and further ramp-up of the production from the new Tyra II facilities, which will continue into the fourth quarter of 2024.
Once the gas flow from Harald, Svend , Roar , and Valdemar , and the wells from the Tyra field, including Southeast, West, and East, is re-established, the North Sea gas project is set to deliver 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, amounting to 80% of the forecasted Danish gas production.
The redeveloped Tyra hub extends the Danish field’s life by 25 years and is anticipated to produce 5.7 million cubic meters of gas and 22,000 barrels of condensate per day at a plateau.
