SAAM Terminals has concluded a collaboration agreement with NextPort, the technology subsidiary of Moffatt & Nichol, to implement the latter’s new platform that combines DigitalTwin and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
The solution provides a digital replica of the port’s physical assets, processes and systems that is created from real-time data collected from sensors and other Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and used to analyze, predict and optimize the port’s performance.
It will be implemented in two pilots, and according to SAAM, it will enhance operational excellence and optimize the Terminal Operating System (TOS), which manages and automates operations platform across terminals.
“By integrating a sophisticated data platform, NextPort AI will connect THE TOS and other critical systems, adhering to industry standards such as DCSA and TIC4.0, to support decision making and exception handling in the terminals control rooms. The goal of this integration is to maximize asset performance and streamline centralized planning,” SAAM said.

To remind, in 2023, German shipping major Hapag Lloyd completed the acquisition of SM SAAM’s terminal business and related logistics services.
The transaction includes interests in terminals in Iquique, Antofagasta, San Antonio, San Vicente and Corral (Chile), Port Everglades (United States / Florida), Mazatlán (Mexico), Buenavista (Colombia), Guayaquil (Ecuador) and Caldera (Costa Rica), as well as related logistics services.
