Lhyfe and Elyse Energy to produce e-methanol from green hydrogen for maritime decarbonization

French hydrogen producer Lhyfe has partnered with compatriot e-fuel company Elyse Energy to develop a project for producing e-methanol from green hydrogen, with an aim to decarbonize maritime transport.

Specifically, Lhyfe and Elyse Energy have signed an exclusive agreement for the technical, economic, financial, and regulatory feasibility study of a project to produce e-methanol from green hydrogen at the Montoir-de-Bretagne site within the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire.

To remind, in November 2023, Lhyfe was selected as the winner of the call for proposals launched at the end of 2022 by Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port to establish a green hydrogen industrial production and distribution site in Montoir-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique).

As the winner of this call, Lhyfe plans to build an industrial unit with a production capacity of up to 85 tonnes per day of green and renewable hydrogen (installed electrolysis capacity of 210 MW) located north of the bulk port terminal. This site should be operational by 2028, contributing to maritime transport decarbonization.

With the new agreement, Elyse Energy becomes Lhyfe’s first project partner following its selection under Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port’s call for proposals.

Implementation of the project will be subject to the conclusions of the feasibility study, the granting of operating licenses and building permits, and financial investment decisions.

A presentation of the project by the partners is scheduled for September 2024.
