US-based shipowner Fairfield Chemical Carriers has welcomed its second in a series of four stainless steel chemical tankers powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Japanese shipbuilder Fukuoka Shipbuilding.
As informed, the vessel was delivered by the shipyard on July 25, 2024. The shipowner noted that the vessel Fairchem Pioneer represents its continued commitment to sustainability and innovation in the maritime industry.
The third ship in this series, Fairchem Prestige, was launched in April this year at the Japanese shipyard.
According to the shipowner, the vessels in these series boast a LNG propulsion technology that could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25% compared to traditional marine fuels.
Fairfield Chemical Carriers was recently acquired by chemical tanker operator MOL Chemical Tankers, a subsidiary of Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).
The acquisition is based on a share transfer agreement signed at the end of September 2023. The company obtained approval from the relevant authorities under competition law. The acquisition price of the shares will be about $400 million.

Fairfield controls a fleet of modern 20,000 MT and 25,000 MT deadweight chemical tankers. The company has 37 active vessels. All its vessels are stainless steel and trade a wide range of liquid commodities.
