Intermarine hands over new eco-friendly fast ferry to SNAV

Intermarine, a subsidiary of Immsi industrial group (IMS.MI), has delivered new eco-friendly high-speed ferry to Italian shipping company SNAV.

The vessel Snav Sirius is the latest-generation ferry for short sea crossings, which will operate in the Bay of Naples. Its propulsion system consists of four engines and three IMO III type-approved generators (Marpol Convention) for electric combustion control, fitted with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to reduce emissions.

The engines and the generators can also be powered with biofuel, whose use could contribute to a well-to-wake emissions reduction of up to 90%, according to Intermarine.

The boat is also equipped with a cold ironing dock socket for shore-to-ship energy supply. Furthermore, it can accommodate a hybrid propulsion system for zero-emission port entry and exit maneuvers.

“SNAV is delighted to be able to begin services with a latest-generation craft equipped with advanced technologies designed to reduce environmental impact, one of the main goals of the MSC Group. The arrival of the SNAV SIRIUS confirms the company’s commitment to serving the Bay of Naples, where it will work to enhance the quality of its services, gradually eliminate carbon emissions and improve customer satisfaction,” SNAV stated.

“Intermarine is proud to hand over this first hi-tech craft to SNAV, an important event for both companies, who share many years of experience in the maritime sector. This is not the only collaboration between Intermarine and SNAV: both companies are already working on new initiatives with the aim of further improving the travel experience, especially for people with reduced mobility, with their new craft already compliant with the requirements of the Ministry’s latest “PRM” circulars,” Intermarine added.

The ship is designed by the Intermarine research centre in Messina. Intermarine highlighted that the ferry comes as a the result of years of research in maritime construction.

SNAV’s fleet consists of hydrofoils, catamarans and high-speed vessels.
